2k17!

My New Year's resolution or my intention for 2017 is to stop talking back to my parents and think to reflect on what will come out of my mouth before I speak. I always have the gut to talk back to my parents all the time when they get mad at me when I know I did something wrong. To stop me from getting mad even though I did the wrong things when my parents get mad at me I will reflect first before I speak and not think what I say. Anything that comes out of my mouth can hurt my parents when I talk back to them because they are my parents and I got to have respect for my parents because they are the only ones that really got me in life. Nobody got my back and love me like my parents do and I am very happy and appreciate them for having them in my life. Without them I wouldn't know what to do. They want me to always go through the right path in life and be perseverent because they want me to succeed and have a better future for myself. They want me to get good grades in school so I can have a well-paid carreer and make a lot of money. This is why I want to change and make myself a new me in 2017. I will stop talking back to my parents whenever they are mad at me because I did something wrong that they want me to never do that mistake so I can move on and succeed and be very meticulous on my actions and my words next year. Overall, I want them to be proud of me, happy that I respect them, and that they know I love them so much. It's going to be a new year, so there will be a new me.

Peace or Violence?

Have you ever wondered what cause violence and why is there so much violence in Chicago? Did you also know that there has been more than 600 homicides in 2016? There is about 10 shootings a day according to Chicago Tribune. 2016 is the year that there has been more homicides in throughout ten years.

Many African Americans, and even hispanics that live in the Chicago area go through high unemployment and poverty, which can cause them to get involved with drugs, crime, and gang activity. The people that go through poverty in Chicago tend to get involved in bad positions because they also live in bad neighborhoods. In a site called Chicago Tribune, it says, "It appears that in fact, poverty itself is more tied with violence, criminal damage and also drug use - as a catalyst for violence in bad neighborhoods." This demonstrates how in bad neighborhoods like in some Chicago areas, people are likely to get involved in bad positions and can cause more violence because of high unemployment and poverty.

Violence also has to do with high unemployment. High unemployment causes violence because it is the first matter that people go into poverty. High unemployment is reason why violence is caused because people don't have jobs and can't be able to maintain themselves. According to a site called National Dialogue Network it says, "Starting from the 1970s, studies in the US pointed more and more at the link between unemployment, poverty and crime. Studies have proven that high unemployment can actually cause violence because people need a job in order to make a living and be in good positions with a well-paid job." This illustrates how when can't find a job to work at because of high unemployment, people will likely go through poverty and can suffer depression and sadness, so they go into bad positions and go into violence. It is just all due to high unemployment and poverty because people will have sad feelings and emotions and have to be involved in gangs, drug, and crime activity so they can make some money because the government isn't helping them get a job.

In a site, called Chicago Tribune, it says how violence it Chicago has gone up throughout the years and what is causing the violence. It stated that, "Yet there are deeper societal problems at play as well, including long histories of poverty, joblessness, segregation and neglect in these crime-ridden neighborhoods." This demonstrates how violence has many factors on how it can cause it. Poverty is a big factor why there is a lot of violence in Chicago. People tend to be in bad positions because they can't find a way out of poverty.

Education can also cause violence because when people are younger, they start to see new things and understand what life is all about and what can happen at any time. The decisions you make when you're younger can affect you in the future when you're grown up. In a site called Poverties, it says, "On average, the more time you spend at school the less violent you will become. Schools don’t just teach you about history or maths, they teach you how to live in society. It all due to time spent in school." This illustrates how lack of education or not having education at all can cause violence. It can cause violence because in school, they are going for a reason, to learn about everything and be educated. In school, they not only teach the subjects in school, but they also teach children how live is and how it can be hard. So, when children aren't going to school, they have a more chance to get involved in bad positions. Not going to school and not having a well-paid career, can cause poverty, which leads to violence.

In conclusion, there are many things why violence in Chicago is a big problem. There is high unemployment, poverty, and lack of education in Chicago. According to Rahm Emmanuel, the mayor of Chicago, says, “In Chicago, you have whole swaths of the city that have basically been abandoned. There are no jobs, there’s no future, and that’s where the violence has been occurring." This makes everything clear and can sum up everything in Chicago on why there is so much violence in Chicago. Everybody should help on improving the society in Chicago. Maybe put charities and fundraisers to raise money and help the ones in need that are going through poverty, lack of education, or high unemployment and can't find a job. Also, put some programs to encourage those that live in Chicago that are living in violence by telling them there is always a way to look for a better future and be in a good position. Overall, the society in Chicago is really messed up and has too much violence. Maybe one day, the society of Chicago will shape up if the government helps out an the people express their emotions and feelings.

Best Christmas Gift!

The best Christmas gift I have ever gotten was a hand-made scarf. You might find it funny and think 'why a scarf'? Well because that scarf means a lot to me. I recall that I got it when I was about 10 years old. The scarf means a lot to me and is the best gift I could ever ask for because the scarf is from my grandma that isn't with me right now because she passed away but I will always remeber the smile she put on me when giving me the scarf. She always wanted me to be safe and in good health. I would go outside in the freezing cold with just a thin sweater and wouldn't care if I got sick. So, she used to tell me to put on a big coat, gloves, and a scarf. She always cared about me so, when Christmas came around, I saw a gifts under the Christmas tree that didn't say who it was from but I ripped the wrapper and saw that it was a nice red scarf. I couldn't identify who it was from. However, I inferred it was probably from my grandma because she always told me to be very sheltered in clothing when I would go outside in the cold. Which I was right, later that Christmas Day, I told my grandma if the scarf was from her. She said yes and I felt my heart warming up and felt happy inside. I was so delighted to know that she cares about me, including my parents too.  She even said that she sewed it and made it. This is why the scarf was my favorite Christmas gift because it means a lot to me. Especially because she actually made it and not bought it. To this day, I still have it and wear it whenever its really cold on the winter. It keeps me really warm and delighted.

Favorite Quote

My favorite quote is, "My ambition is always to get better and better." from Leonel Messi. This is my favorite quote because it tells me, wether it is soccer, boxing, baseball, or school, I need to get better and better everyday by never giving up and keeping my head up. There will always be people that will try to put your head down and will always be hating on you because they don't want to see you to make it. But, I know, I truly know, that I will get better and will fight for success. I want to be successful at what I am doing right now, which is at soccer, boxing, and baseball. I have people around me that want to see me fail but like I said, I will make it, and when I make it, they will be regreting what they said about me. I just have this love for sports, they keep me motivated and happy. Everytime I step onto the soccer field, with a ball next to my feet, I know I will get better and better everyday, when I step into the ring, with boxing gloves on, I know I will get better and better everyday, everytime I step onto the baseball field, with a glove, bat, and ball, I know I will get better and better because thats my desire. I will never quit until I know I am better, which will be never because, everytime I get better, the more passion, love, and courage I have for the game. This is why I love this quote so much because it makes me want to be better and better and have a strong desire for the game.

What does my name mean?

I got my name from my dad, he wanted to name me Uriel because his name is Uriel too. So, I'm junior. I asked my mom what my name means and why they named me that, other than my dad's name being the same as mine, and she told me that Uriel is in the bible and has to do with an  archangel. My name comes from Hebrew and means "God is my light." I know for a fact my name has to do with god and angels. Also, I like my name because I have never heard somebody named Uriel and it is a rare name. It may sound weird, but I like my name and I wouldn't change it. Finally, my last name is from my fathers side but I don't know what it means or where it comes from. Overall, I learned a lot about my name and I'm happy I'm named the way I am.

What I'm gr8ful for

There are many things why I am grateful for. One reason for what I'm thankful for, is my family, especially my parents. They keep my head up when I go through hard times, they feed me, have a roof where I can live at, and take care of me and want me to succeed. I'm thankful for my parents that always look out for me and want me to go into a good path in life. Also, my sister and my two brothers each got each other's back and we never stop loving each other, even though we might get into fights and arguments. I may have days where I'm mad at my siblings or parents and I say don't want want them in my life, but who else would care for me besides them? No one. That is why I am thankful, we might have ups and downs, but at the end of the day, we all love each other and been there for each other through thick and thin. Another reason why I'm thankful for is going to school.  Not many kids get the chance to afford to go to school because they go through poverty. That's why I don't argue going to school, because many kids want and wish to go to school, and I can actually afford it and go to school to get education. Also, District 100, which is our district, gives us Ipads to do our work and learn. I could tell you, every single day I go to school, I oearn something new and a new life experience. I work hard in school to have good grades for my future. What I do right now, depends on my future. A third reason why I am thankful for is having food and a roof to live on everyday which goes back to my parents, because without them I wouldn't have these things. They work hard to feed us and keep a roof above our heads. They buy us anything we want, sometimes it's difficult for them to buy what we want but I understand when they can't. A last and fourth reason why I'm thankful for is having health. Sometimes I think about it and I am like, many people aren't really in good health conditions and have some sort of sickness. I am just happy that I have health and thank god for being healthy. All in all, that's what's thanksgiving all about, to be greatful for the things you have around you.

Election Reflection

My thoughts on this election in general was that it was a very different one than any other elections before. It was different because thorughout the whole election, the republican side was Donald Trump and all he talked about how he would want to get rid of immigrants around the whole country, how he would want to build a wall on the border of Mexico and the U.S., and he also talked bad about women. It was just a different election because I never heard and seen any candidates before that wanted to be president, talk negative. Usually, people of the U.S. want a president that has a positive mindset for the country, the future of our country, and how we would keep America strong and be all united. In the democratic side, Hillary Clinton was trying to help the country to have a bright future and have a better economy and how we would be stronger together, hence her campaign slogan. It was also different from any other elections because during the election season, Hillary was being investigated for emails that were used by her. In my opinion, why would people want a president that either has lawsuits and is negative or is being investigated. This shows us what kind of people we have running for president of our country that will later represent the U.S.

My thoughts on this election was that I was suprised that Donald Trump won the election and would be our next president but other than that I was sad he won and will be president. I was surprised because before he election day, they said Hillary would win due to the poles. I was happy that Hillary might win but then due to the Elctoral College, Trump won the election. I was sad because Trump won and how I might go back to Mexico with my family and wouldnt be able to have better opportunities anymore for my education. Also, because he is a person that talks whatever that comes out of his mouth without thinking, he is just a negative person. I didn't want a person that talks bad about people and was racists because that person will represent our country. I wanted a person like Hillary that had great mindset for the future of the U.S. I really feel like it will take time for America to adjust and be the same diverse country it has always been.

I  would not want to be involved in politics right now but later on in the future, I would like to be more involved in politics because it's important to understand politics because it is part of the U.S. where politician can depend on me. Politician reflects on the U.S. and on us because its a big part where people represent us to have a better country together. In the next election, I will be voting and find it very exiciting because I will be actually voting. I will vote for the best canditate that has a positive mindset and has postive ideas for the future of our country. A big part of me where I'm excited is that when I vote, my vote will be towards someone that will make America a better place and my vote will reflect on the U.S. for the next president for us.

Some issues I think that are important relating to the election is immigration, racism, hate, and economy. These topics were talked about a lot throughout the elections. Immigration is one important issue because Donald Trump wants to stop immigration and build a wall between the border of Mexico and the U.S. In my opinion, why would he want to build a wall? It would take years to be build and he is throwing money away and wasting it. Another issue is racism and hate because Donald Trump doesn't want no one that came from different countries in America. He is racists towards muslims, hispanics, and African Americans. He talks about how he doesn't want them here and how he wants to deport hispanics. A second issue is that economy, which might be the most important one. Hillary and Trump talked about how they both wanted to make America's economy better and wanted to shape up the economy. Overall, I respect our next president which is Donald Trump and I will keep my head up for the next four years until I get a chance to vote.

Best Day Ever!

The best day ever for me was when I went to Mexico for the first time in my life! This happened 2 years ago and I haven't went since then, but I would want to go again. The second day was actually my favorite in Mexico from my summer vacation 2 years ago because I never went there and I never saw my family over there. I always heard my parents say that Mexico is way different from here. They say in Mexico, you live in farms, go out to crop, ride horses, and take care of their animals in their own houses. The second day, it was sunny and hot, and I explored everything in Mexico. I could hear, see, and sense that Mexico is really different. It is really different from city life. It took nearly 4 hours to get there and when my brothers and I landed in an airport in Mexico, my uncld and his family were awaiting for me and my brothers. I knew how he looked from pictures I saw when my dad would show me. My brothers and I were really nervous because it was really difficult in my part to talk to my family that I never met before.

We usually got there at night when we got to the airport, which was the first day, and my uncle drove us to his house. The roads were reall bumpy, filled with rocks when we entered the city, or what they call it in Mexico, a village/pueblo. When we got to his house, we ate dinner and then went to sleep. The next day, which was the best day of my life, we learned how to feed the animals such as the cows, chickens, roosters, and horses. We got to ride horses, I was the one to ride the horse my dad owned. We met all of our family members from my mom's side and dad's side, especially our grandparents and grandmothers. We also, which I found funny and joyous, got to actually own a dog and a bunny that my cousins gave me because we never owned a pet here, in the United States. Furthermore, the second day of Mexico was the best day of my life because I got to learn and see how people around the world live with different lifestyles and cultures. I never thought Mexico would be so fun, I was always free in the wild and nobody, neither the police to tell you something you can't do. I would go ride horses all day long, woke up early to feed the animals, and help work with my grandpas with their crops. I just had a different lifestyle over there and experienced the awesome cultures Mexico has and met my other part of my family.

Throwback!

One of the things that were part of my childhood memories were funny animated movies and shows I used to watch all the time with my brothers. I liked to watch Mickey Mouse, Curious George, etc. Some of my other favorite shows I used to watch while growing up was watching Spongebob, Phineas and Ferb, and Rugrats. I could name way more. I would always be glued to the screen and watch my favorite shows. I also watched scary movies at night when my cousins would come over the weekend and we would eat popcorn while watching a scary movie. Then at night I wouldn't sleep because I got frightened from the movie and I would think my big teddy bear I always slept with, was a ghost or something and I would throw it and go under my blanket. I remember reading the whole series and watch all the movies from "Diary of A Wimpy Kid" because I was so into the books and movies. I liked the books way more though.  I also remember when I would play Pokémon cards with my cousins, brothers, and friends. I would always carry them with me everywhere I went and would trade and try to collect Pokémons. I still have the books from "Diary of Wimp Kid" and the pokemons inside my drawer and every time I see them, I remember how happy I used to be.

I recall when my siblings and I would always fight for something. We used to fight for the control everyday so we could see our own shows. We never liked each other's shows. We would also fight because we would take each other's things and play with their toys and one of us would always get mad a beat them up. So, we would never get along and always get in trouble. Another memory that was part of my childhood memories was when my parents put me in boxing because I would always hit my siblings for no reason and when my first fight occurred, I remember I said I would change and would be nice with my siblings. I remember this time because I was a troublemaker and didn't care about nothing. One last memory that was important to me in life, was when I loved soccer, it was my favorite sport and remember winning a trophy and a gold medal in 1st place.

Character Analysis Essay

The character I chose from the book The Outsiders, is Johnny Cade because he was a significant character in the book. I learned that he was the most significant character in the book because he was only 16, the smallest in the gang and he delt with hard things in life more than the other characters in the book/movie. He always slept ioutside somewhere such as the parking lot because his parents didn't even care about him. They beat him up and they don't even notice when Johnny leaves the house. He is a "lost puppy that has been kicked too many times" like the book said because his parents don't care about him, and he has been jumped by the Socs. When he is a shy kid, doesn't talk back to people when they talk bout him because he actually never liked fights. He said that fights aren't worth it.

Johnny changed throughout the book by changing his thoughts on dying and appreciating life more because at the beginning of the book, he was a shy quiet kid with lots of things going on in his life that he didn't care whether he died or not. But at the end, when he saved the kids from being burned, he said 16 wasn't enough and don't want to die but also said it was worth saving the kids. It was actually worth it because he died doing something everybody thought he couldn't do.

What I liked most about Johnny was that he saved Ponyboy from getting killed. Ponyboy could've been the one that would die from drowning instead of Bob, the Soc but Johnny killed Bob and saved Ponyboy. I also liked that he saved the kids in the church from getting killed. He went from a lost puppy that has been kicked too many times to a hero and a brave man. What I disliked about Johnny was that he had a rough life, at died at the end. He never got the love and affection from his parents and nobody else except from the gang. What I also dislike about Johnny was that he saved Ponyboy from getting killed from drowning and even saving the kids from getting burned and killed but was the one that died.

The song that would represent Johnny would be "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback because if everyone cared like Johnny's parents, he wouldn't of killed the Soc and wouldn't die. If his parents cared and gave love and advice from the real world and what terrible things can happen in life, nothing would of been happening to him. He wouldn't of kill that Soc or died. He would be a normal kid with lots ahead in his life. But nobody cared but the gang but everybody needs their parents more than anything. In the song it also said if everyone cared, loved, and if everyone shared and swallowed their own pride just like the Greasers and Socs, there would be no violence and fighting. Everyone would be happy and love each other.

Blogging Tips

When I think about blogging tips, I would like to have allot time because I can concentrate and go into a deeper thought in my blog. If I have a lot of time, I can make it sound professional, and make an actual point of something to think about. I can also use metacognition when I use allot time because I can see if I am actually making a good focus on the topic. I can use allot of time to make it have a deep meaning and a porpoise for wiring my blog.

Another blogging tip, is to add pictures and images to my blog. I want it to seem interesting and when the reader is reading my blog, I want them to have a visual understanding on what will be read. I also don't want it to be a plain blog, I would want it to be creative. The pictures or images can make the blog pop out more because the reader may want to read about about it if they see a picture or image that seems interesting to them.

Best Trip Ever

The best trip ever for me would be to go to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It looks so admirable and peaceful. I would also like to meet new people there and see their culture. The first time I ever heard about this beautiful place was in the FIFA World Cup Brazil tournament in soccer. It would show a diverse view of Rio de Janeiro before the game would start and it touched me in some way. I felt like I had to put it on my " Must Go There" list. My dream trip is to go there when I'm older and discover new things. Specifically, it's not a goal to me but a must go. In Rio de Janeiro, it looks very different from here, it has different aspects than the U.S. It has a big fascinating statue representing the city. Rio de Janeiro also has a sea next to it where people enjoy the view and swim. Personally, I would want to go there because I would want to travel around the world not just go to Rio de Janeiro, I want to go out and discover new things in the world. I know there is a lot of wonderful places around the world where people enjoy. That is why I would want to be that person to be happy and travel around the world.

Summer Reading Book

The title of the book is called, "Paper Towns." The author's name is John Green. In the book, Margo Roth Spiegelman goes to Quentin Jacobsen's window one night at midnight since they are next door neighbors at a subdivision called Jefferson Park in Orlando, Florida. They prank and get revenge from all the fake friends and other people that hurt her. Then, sneak into SeaWorld to hang out once again. Quentin is happy to hang out with Margo since he is in love with her. But later that day, Margo disappears. His friends, Ben and Radar and Quentin then start gathering clues. One important clue they found was a highlighted poem called, "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman. This clue led Quentin to an abandoned minimall. In the minimall, he also finds a map of the U.S. He spends his last few weeks of high school trying to understand and communicate with her from the poem, but nothing yet. Until graduation day, when Quentin realizes he's seen a similar pattern of pinholes. He then makes a comparison between the map he made to try to find her to the one he found in the minimall. He realizes that the pinholes on the wall of the minimall were plotting a map. So he lines up the U.S. map to the pinholes in the minimall. He discovers she is in Agloe, New York, a fictinouos town created by mapmakers as a copyright trap. So, he searches for it on Omnictionary, and discovers someone posted a comment saying, "fyi, whoever Edits this- the Population of agloe Will actually be one until May 29th at Noon." Quentin realizes this was posted from Margo because she is the only person that capitalizes words in middle of sentences. So, Quentin and his friends skip their high school graduation to go to Agloe, NY and find Margo. When they arrive at Agloe, she is not the person they always thought they knew. Margo is mad because they had found her since she wants to know who she really is and start a new life where she will not be a paper girl anymore. So, Quentin lets her go and realizes their story was nothing but a miracle.

The theme of this book is that in life, in order to know who you really are, you have to chase your dreams and goals. Go explore and see what your mind sets you to do. You have to go on a journey or adventure to know what you want in life in order to succeed. In the book, it says, "Traveling, I am finding, teaches you a lot of things about yourself." This quote shows that if you let yourself travel, and see things you've never seen, it makes you understand yourself. Just go to the place where it makes you feel compassionate and free where your mind wants to soar. Go and discover the beautiful world and let yourself be.

In 10 years...

In 10 years, I see myself doing what I love to do, which is being a boxer. I want to be happy with my career. I will fight in the ring because that's what my passion is. When I step into the ring, I feel the love, passion, and courage for this sport. The moment that I step into the ring, people will se that I don't to it for money or fun, but because I was born to do this and will die doing this. My dad over boxing and grew up loving it, and now I'm growing up having love for this sport. I want to be like Saul "Canelo" Alvarez because he is my idol and ever since I saw him fight, I wanted to be like him one day. I have learned a lot from this sport from my dad since I was little. Everyday I want to be training to get better and better. All I want for my future is to one of the greatest boxers of all time. Also, I would want to be rich, have a BMW I8 and an Audi V10, and have a big mansion where I can take care of my family. Also, to be happy with my family for the rest of my life and travel to places with the person that will have my heart. I want my kids to see as their role model just like I saw my dad like one. Boxing just keeps me motivated and successful in life.
